2022-23 Residents Sara, Rolando, Isabella and Fr. Cody joined five other Western Province Dominican campus ministries (Univ. of Washington, Univ. of Oregon, Univ. of Arizona, Stanford, and UNLV) with their student leaders and priests for a weekend formation retreat at St. Albert’s Priory in Oakland, California.
The theme of the weekend was contemplation. Student leaders attended keynote talks by Dominicans about contemplation (both theological and practical), and participated in small-group workshops with their peers.
Highlights included:
- a lectio divina keynote from our ministry (by Fr. Cody, see St. Catherine’s lectio divina page) where student leaders learned about Divine Revelation, listening to the Word of God, and had an opportunity to put it into practice by praying our lectio divina format in their small groups;
- a keynote on Christian leadership by newly ordained Fr. Chrysostom Mijinke, OP and Campus Ministry Bayli (both from University of Washington Newman Center);
- a day trip to St. Dominic’s in San Francisco for Mass, a tour of the beautiful Gothic-revival church, followed by lunch and a touring trip of San Francisco and the surrounding areas;

- Masses at St. Albert’s Priory in Oakland with music from the choir at the UW Newman Center;
- many socials and time for student leaders to meet one another and form relationships.
We’re looking forward to the start of the semester on August 22nd, with our residents and student leaders having fresh new ideas of inviting their peers to Life in Christ.
Be on the watch for upcoming posts introducing each of our 2022-23 Undergraduate Resident Campus Ministers (“Residents”), as well as an announcement of the newly formed Student Council!
