Hello friends! The Catholic Connection youth group has had a very full and fruitful first year, and we are beyond excited to see what adventures this second year has in store for us! Over this past year, the Catholic Connection youth group has developed as a collaboration between St. Catherine’s, and the Cathedral of the Madeline. It has been wonderful to see this youth group grow as a place that provides a community of peers for teens from a variety of parishes and high schools throughout the city. I have been inspired by the amount of love, care, and support that I have seen from them for each other.
Throughout this past year, we held weekly meetings that covered a variety of topics that opened up discussion of how to bring faith to life, and life to faith. We also volunteered together at the Good Samaritan a handful of times, put together a bilingual prayer vigil, went snow tubing with St. John the Baptist’s youth group, held a couple pancake breakfast fundraisers, traveled to Los Angeles for Catholic Youth Day and a trip to Disney, kicked off Holy Week with an overnight retreat at St. Catherine’s, and elected a board of five youth leaders. Overall, we’ve been busy!
This summer, we sent our youth board to Notre Dame for a week long conference, Notre Dame Vision. Here, these students were able to meet Catholic teens from all over the country, listen to speakers, pray together, and spend time in discussions about faith with small groups of their peers and mentors from Notre Dame. It was amazing at the end of the week to see how these youth grew in their love for Christ, each other, and their peers throughout this brief time.
Going into this coming year, the whole youth group, led by this team of peer leaders, are full of so much energy and excitement and are already looking towards ideas for this coming year. Coming up this year, as well as our weekly meetings and smaller events, we are planning on traveling to Los Angeles once again, and are hoping to collaborate with a few other youth groups to hold a multi-day retreat in the spring.
Coming up in a few weeks, on September 30th, we will be hiking to Cecret Lake with Fr. Marcin for a mass in the mountains! We will meet at St. Catherine’s at 10am, and drive up to the canyon together. All teens (and their families) are welcome- permission slips are required for teens whose parents are not attending, so please RSVP to [email protected]! If you are a teen in grades 9-12, you are welcome to join us for youth group on Sundays from 4:30-6:30 in the downstairs youth room!
Catholic Connection is a multi-parish youth group that provides an opportunity for 9th – 12th graders to gather to build community, grow in their faith, and to learn how to make faith a reality in their everyday life!
