Saint Catherine’s Men’s Group members deepen their spirituality, enjoy fellowship, and serve others in need within our parish and in the wider community.
We were founded in the Fall of 2007 by Jim Duff. We meet the second Saturday of every month (except August) at 9am for two hours for prayer, reflection on a Bible passage, breakfast, and a presentation/discussion on a spiritual topic by a member or a guest. There is no formal membership; everyone is welcome.
In the past we sponsored a Valentine’s Day breakfast to honor and recognize women in the parish, and our spouses. We have also donated time helping with setup/cleanup for various parish parties and events; performed various maintenance tasks such as rehabilitation of the skylight windows on the fourth floor of Newman; painted some of the fourth floor rooms of Newman; helped with moving parishioners; yard work for elders of our parish, and donated money for special projects such as renewal of the rectory windows.
Beyond Newman we have provided financial support for a children’s hospital in Zimbabwe; a woman’s shelter in Thailand; a children’s center and a girl’s hostel in Namibia; and education of individuals in Guatemala and India. The Men’s group has donated over fifteen thousand dollars. Those funds have come from parking revenues and members’ donations.
A smaller group of our men have recently begun to meet on the other Saturdays of each month from 07:30-09:00 in the Library Lounge. We just started reading Richard Rohr’s Falling Upward, exploring and sharing our own spiritual journeys, and as with the larger Men’s Group Monthly meeting, all are welcome.
