At the 6:30pm Mass on August 14th, The Most Reverend Oscar A. Solis celebrated the Mass of Installation of the new pastor of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Newman Center, Fr. Gabriel Mosher, OP.
The Mass was well attended by the various groups of our community: students, young adults, families, and our many long-supportive friends. In attendance were Fr. Jacek Buda, OP the previous pastor; Fr. Cody Jorgensen, OP, present Director of Campus Ministry; and Fr. Anil Kumar Kakumanu, pastor of neighboring Our Lady of Lourdes parish.
Bishop Oscar preached on Jesus’ desire to “set the earth on fire” (Lk 12:49-53) with the Love of God. “Are your hearts on Fire?” he asked the congregation. He exhorted all present to be a witness to the fire of God’s love by living a joyful Christian life. With only days until the University of Utah begins the Fall Semester, the message of joyful Christians bringing the fire of the Gospel to our campus was a clear and encouraging mission for our students, faculty, staff, and friends.
Bishop Oscar and Fr. Gabriel thanked the out-going pastor, Fr. Jacek for his service to the community during his years as pastor. Fr. Jacek is spending the next two months visiting his Dominican brothers, family, and friends in Poland. He will be working with Dominican superiors in Poland and the United States to determine his next mission after St. Catherine’s. Thank you Fr. Jacek for your service and gifts to St. Catherine’s!
The parish’s Knights of Columbus council prepared a BBQ for the community after the Mass. A thanks to all of the Knights, Dominican Laity, Parish Council, and many others who made the BBQ a festive occasion on the installation of our new pastor.
If you would like to learn more about Fr. Gabriel, you can read the recent article published on the occasion of his appointment as pastor of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Newman Center on our diocesan newspaper, Intermountain Catholic.
Please pray for Fr. Gabriel as he begins this new ministry at St. Catherine’s. Please also pray for our campus community at the start of the new academic year. We pray that we might live as evangelical witnesses to our campus, inviting all to discover the richness of life in Christ.
