"When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit..." (Acts 2:1-4)
This is the birth of our Church! Are you in town the Pentecost weekend? Come, let us be "together in one place" and ask the Lord to pour on us his life-giving Spirit.
We will celebrate the eve of Pentecost with Adoration, meditative Taize music, the prayer of the psalms, times of silence, and reflections on the gifts of the Holy Spirit. The night will conclude with a powerful Byzantine chant called AKATHISTOS HYMN TO THE HOLY AND LIFE-GIVING SPIRIT.
"Dance thou, O holy mother Sion, daughter of the light! O universal Church of Christ, thou great bride, adorn thyself like unto the sky, brilliant with radiance! The Holy Spirit resteth on thee, healing the infirm, filling those who lack, giving life to the dead, and leading to eternal life all who rightly cry out as is meet: Alleluia!" (from the Akathistos to the Holy Spirit)
