The goal of the 4th floor intentional community is to give St. Catherine’s students exposure to the four pillars of Dominican life (Prayer, Study, Ministry and Community Life) in a sustained and intimate way. Residents are held accountable for their individual and communal responsibilities and tasks, including their individual studies. As a key part of the Newman Center Ministry, the residents will be challenged to grow spiritually, interpersonally, intellectually, and professionally, while living in community at the Newman Center. Working hand in hand with the Newman staff, residents are responsible for a range of ministerial and operational duties from aiding the Campus Minister in ministry planning, to representing Christ as a witness to the greater Salt Lake community, both on campus and in our Parish. They are both supported by and work closely with the Campus Minister.
PRINCIPAL COMMITMENTS: Community life is built primarily by a weekly community night (1-1.5 hours); prayer life begins with the residents' involvement with the 6:30pm Sunday Mass; ministry involvement is expressed through organizing student retreats (twice a year), serving coffee and donuts after morning masses every Sunday (2 residents), and diverse personal commitments to evangelization (to be discerned by individual residents with the guidance from the Campus Minister); there are also house chores, like the building lock-up, and cleaning 4th floor common areas, etc.
